Back translation overview

A back translation is a method for validating the quality of a translation. You create a back translation by adapting the result of a translation project into a commonly used language. This "adaptation of the adaptation" is a back translation. A translation consultant who knows the commonly used language can then compare the back translation to the original text. If the essential meaning of the text is unchanged, the translation processes has been successful.

The purpose of a back translation is to reflect the content and grammatical structure of the target text in a form that the consultant or others can understand. The creation of back translation requires a person who knows both the target language and back translation language.
